Bugs came to us at a time that Dolly was injured and I didn't have another horse to ride. We were looking around at horses, checking the internet and ads in the paper. He had a very unique look about him that really caught my eye. I had picked out 2 horses and my parents made contact with them and of the 2 it was not hard to choose which one I wanted. We drove to San Antonio, TX to look at him and knew then that he was going to be a part of our family. He was about 20 months old when we brought him home and started working with him. He was a little apprehensive the first couple of weeks, but then he became very trusting and a lot of fun to be around. I remember when we first started his ground training and it was time to start him under saddle. Actually it was a time I will never forget. He did really well with the blanket and saddle and became very accustomed to it and we decided it was time to ride. In short, it was the quickest but the longest ride of my life. It was the first time I was ever bronced off of a horse. If anything was going to go wrong, it did at that moment. My dad had not cinched him up tight enough and when he started bucking, the saddle with me on it, went right underneath him. It was very frightening to see his hooves come smashing down beside my head while I was upside down. I finally was able to break loose from him as he went completely nuts with that saddle under him. We finally got him stopped and other than a few bruises and a great deal of spook, he was ok. It took about 2 months to get him back to the point we were at when we first started him. Shortly after, we moved and his training stopped. He is now with David and doing fantastic. He is started well on the barrels and seems to take to them really well. I am so looking forward to getting him back. I have really missed him. |
