Dolly was my first barrel horse and we trained together. As I soon learned, it was not such a great idea, but on the other hand, she has made me a much better rider than I would have been without her. We went from her not wanting to run, to dodging the second barrel, to bucking after the second barrel, to becoming an incredible 1 and top 2D barrel horse, to a rearing, hate the alley attitude kind of horse. Most of the time testing me to see just how much she could get away with. Unfortunately she had her time with trainers and became one of those horses you love to hate. She no longer rears nor does she buck, but she will keep you guessing at each race. Sometimes she is a free-runner and it is hard to keep her out and other times, well more often, she is impossible to get into the alley as with many horses. Once you think you have her figured out, she surprises you with some other means of intimidation. She is an incredibly talented mare with an attitude. Once in the arena, she loves her job and does it very well. She is still in training and I really look forward to racing her again. Don't get me wrong, she has made me more angry than anyone could imagine, but I could never give her up. There have been many good offers and if it had been any other horse, she would probably be gone. I am hoping to have Dolly ready again this summer, but I guess time will tell. I really miss racing her but I have my other horses that will be keeping me very busy. Jay is just about ready to Jackpot and Taz is coming along great, but the others are just getting started, so it will definately be a training year. Dolly truly has changed my life and has made me more happier than she has made me angry and I guess that is what makes the difference. She has the most unpredictable personality but she is smart, incredibly funny and I think she loves to make me angry, just to see my reaction. Watch for us, because we will be running again real soon.
